Hamirpur (HP): A senior teacher allegedly locked a student in the institute's staffroom and raped her. The incident took place at a local private college in Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur.

The accused, a chemistry teacher, reportedly called the minor victim to the college's staffroom and allegedly proceeded to rape her. 


The incident came to light on Thursday, after the victim narrated her ordeal.


Hundreds of students in the city boycotted their classes and took to the streets, protesting about the incident. They demanded a death sentence for the accused. 


The students further claimed that the law and order situation in the town has been steadily deteriorating and demanded adequate security for girls.


The teacher has now been arrested by cops and an investigation is underway.


The accused teacher has been arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, said District police chief Raman Kumar Meena. 


He has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act) as the victim is a minor, Meena aded.


The statement of the victim would be recorded and challan filed in the court within a month, he said.
