"I had never been enamoured by Oscars but I am happy on getting the news. I am further happy that the Academy is forming a big committee comprising directors from India," Ghose told PTI.

The filmmaker, who was once the chairperson of the board that chooses the Oscar entry from India, said, "Being a large film producing nation, I had then asked for sending more than one film from here."

The Academy of Motion Picture, Arts and Sciences has invited 14 popular personalities associated with Indian cinema which included three eminent directors from Kolkata, Mrinal Sen, Buddhadeb Dasgupta and Ghose.

Dasgupta, who recently made "Tope", said, "I have never craved for an Oscar. But being invited to be a part of the committee is definitely a kind of honour for me.

"I got the letter and accepted the offer," he confirmed.

Sen, who is not keeping well, was not available for a comment.
