According to ANI, the body of the young woman was kept in the mortuary of Osmania General Hospital where it was allegedly disfigured by rats.

As per a report published in a leading south Indian daily, the young woman, U Madhu, had committed suicide by hanging herself at her home in Mangaar Basti in Habeebnagar on Monday night.

She was taken to the hospital for post-mortem the same night by the police who registered a case of suspicious death.

After the post-mortem, her dead body was shifted to the hospital's mortuary.

In view of allegations of negligence b her close relatives, the hospital authorities said a probe into the matter has been launched.

''I went to the forensic department and found that all freezers are working in good conditions, no holes for rats to enter. Maybe they didn't properly close door while putting body in. It doesn't occur frequently,'' DR B Narendher, the hospital superintendent, was quoted as saying by ANI.

''We are conducting a departmental inquiry,'' he added.

Interestingly, several other bodies were kept in the morgue, but only Madhu’s body was disfigured.

Osmania General Hospital is a prominent major government hospital in Hyderabad.
