In the 2017 election, he received 89,191 (51.48%) votes defeating his nearest rival Congress’s Anugrah Narain Singh by a margin of 35,025 votes.

Sandeep is the Samajwadi Party’s candidate for the Allahabad North Assembly seat. SP did not contest from this seat in the 2017 elections as its then alliance partner Congress fought from this seat. Congress's Anugrah Narain Singh, with 54,166 votes (31.27%), was the runner-up in the 2017 Assembly elections.
