BHOPAL: A major mishap took place after a bus carrying passengers fell from a bridge in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone district on Tuesday. According to reports, 15 people have died and many injured in the tragic incident and the death toll is likely to go up. The police and rescue teams have reached the accident spot and carrying out the rescue operation.

It is being said that the bus was en route from Khargone to Indore when it fell from a height of approximately 50 feet, leading to a significant loss of life.


 


Rescue Operation Underway


 


News agency ANI cited Dharam Veer Singh, SP Khargone, confirming that 15 people have died and 25 have been injured after a bus fell from a bridge in Khargone. A rescue operation is currently underway, the SP added.  


 



 


Several bodies have been fished out of the river after the tragic bus accident.


'Bus Was Overloaded'


 


It is being said that the accident took place after the driver lost control of the bus and it fell off the 50-foot-high bridge on the Borad River. The private bus operated by Maa Sharda Travels was overloaded which might have led to the mishap, according to the locals.


However, the exact reasons behind the mishap are yet to be ascertained. It is being reported that there were about 50 passengers onboard. The injured have been immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.


Visuals shared by several users on Twitter showed a private bus lying on the river bed and locals and policemen carrying out the relief and rescue work. 


 



 


Compensation Announced


 


Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh government has announced immediate financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased, Rs 50,000 each to the seriously injured and Rs 25,000 each to those who received minor injuries in the Khargone bus accident.
