Bihar Politics: Nitish Kumar Likely To Resign And Form New Government With BJP Today

New Delhi: In a significant development, sources suggest a strong probability of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal-United (JDU) collaborating to establish a new government in Bihar.. BJP is set to hold a meeting with its MLAs on Sunday after which Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will tender his resignation to the governor and subsequently form a new government with a fresh alliance.
The swearing-in ceremony is slated to take place between 4 to 5 pm on Sunday, with preparations underway in the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan. The ceremony is expected to see the oath-taking of key leaders, including the Chief Minister, with 3 MLAs from JDU, 3 from BJP, and 1 from another party also set to participate in the event. As part of the preparations, officials from the Chief Minister's Secretariat inspected the swearing-in site. Sources reveal that Nitish Kumar is inclined against having two Deputy Chief Ministers in the new government. The stance of the BJP on this matter remains undisclosed at present.
Despite the ongoing preparations, both Nitish Kumar and the BJP have refrained from making any formal announcements regarding the formation of the new government. Nonetheless, internal preparations within both parties indicate a proactive approach to the impending government formation.
Addressing the situation, BJP state president Samrat Chaudhary stated on Saturday that Nitish Kumar has not resigned, and no withdrawal of support has occurred yet. The party is awaiting updates on the Bihar situation, and decisive action will follow when information is received from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In terms of scheduling, BJP MLAs are slated to have breakfast at the state office in Patna at 9 am on Sunday. Subsequently, BJP, JDU, and HAM MLAs will partake in a lunch meeting with Nitish Kumar. Later in the evening, all MLAs will converge at Raj Bhavan, where Nitish Kumar is expected to tender his resignation. Following this, the joint claim to form a new government with BJP and HAM will be presented.
Notably, BJP and JDU have planned separate meetings on Sunday morning. BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy confirmed that the party would convene at 9 am, instructing both MPs and MLAs to be in attendance. Simultaneously, JDU has called for a party MLA meeting at 10 am on Sunday. The National spokesperson of the HAM party, Shyam Sundar Sharan, affirmed the party's steadfast support for Narendra Modi, aligning with the decisions of the NDA. The party stands ready to collaborate and act in accordance with the collective decision of the NDA alliance.
