NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday conducted searches at premises linked to former Union minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram’s son Karti in connection with an ongoing case against the latter. The CBI action is in connection with a fresh case against the Chidambarams' alleged involvement in the issuance of visas to the Chinese nationals for illegal gratification.

According to news agency ANI, the central agency is conducting searches at nine locations across several states linked to Karti Chidambaram since Tuesday morning. The CBI searches started at 8 AM and are continuing. The CBI is also recording the statements of the persons who are at the house of Chidambaram.


 



 


The CBI searches are being conducted at various locations across Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Sivagangai in Tamil Nadu. 


 



 


Minutes later, Karti Chidambaram tweeted that he "has lost count" of the number of central searches at his offices and residence. 


 



 


According to sources, the investigative agency has registered a fresh case against Karti Chidambaram over alleged foreign remittances between 2010-14. The central probe agency has booked Lok Sabha MP Karti Chidambaram in a new case of alleged illegal gratification, said news agency PTI citing the CBI officials. 


It has been alleged that the Chidambaram father-son duo allegedly helped the Chinese nationals get visas by flouting rules. A project was going on in Punjab for which Chidambaram helped them in getting visas.
