The arrest comes days after the anti-extortion cell had deported and arrested Ahmed Raza Wadharia, a close aide of Dawood's gang member Fahim Machmach, from Dubai. Raza was arrested in connection with an extortion case.

Rizwan is believed to have links Raza. Rizwan's interrogation is currently underway.

Dawood, who is wanted in India in connection with the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, is believed to be in hiding in Karachi, Pakistan. Recently, new and exclusive pictures of Dawood in Pakistan had surfaced. While there have been several proofs, Pakistan has repeatedly denied the presence of the 51-year-old don on its land.

The intelligence agencies, who got hold of Dawood's pictures, said the photos were taken when he met his most trusted aide Jabir Motiwala, who heads the international network of the D-company. In the picture, a clean-shaven Dawood can be seen in conversation with Motiwala.

Addressing a press conference in the national capital, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Raveesh Kumar had said, "The location of Dawood Ibrahim is not a secret. Time and again for the last several years, we have presented to Pakistan a list of people who are in their country. We have asked repeatedly that he should be handed over. He is a UN proscribed terrorist."
