J&K Grenade Blast: Cops Arrest Terrorists, Aides Behind Srinagar Market Attack
Police officials said the terror attack was carried out by the terrorists and their associaties on instructions of their handlers in Pakistan.
J&K News: In a major success for the Jammu Kashmir police investigating the grenade attack that took place in Srinagar's weekly market on Sunday, November 3, terrorists and their associates in connection with the attack.
Speaking on the latest developments in the grenade blast probe, IGP Kashmir VK Birdi said that the case has been cracked and it was discovered that three terror associates carried out the attack on the behest of a Pakistani LeT terrorist handler.
He stated it's a big success to crack the case in just 5 days, and Srinagar police had worked hard to crack the case. He said
The three arrested were identified as Usama Yasin Sheikh, Umar Fayaz Shiekh, and Afnan Ahmed, residents of Ikhrajpora Srinagar. Police said that Umar was earlier also involved in terror activities; he was in jail under PSA and was recently released from jail. They said the trio came by foot to spot and lobbed a grenade towards a security forces picket which hit branches of a nearby tree and exploded in a crowded area.
IGP said “Srinagar police constituted teams and tasked them to investigate the case. “After thorough investigations, three persons who are affiliated with the Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit and were behind the TRC grenade attack”.
Twelve people, including a woman, were injured in the grenade attack at the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) and weekly market in the Jammu and Kashmir's capital on Sunday.
The terrorists and their associates have been booked under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had condemned the attack, saying there can be "no justification for targeting innocent civilians."
"The last few days have been dominated by headlines of attacks & encounters in parts of the valley. Today's news of a grenade attack on innocent shoppers at the 'Sunday market' in Srinagar is deeply disturbing. There can be no justification for targeting innocent civilians," the Chief Minister had said in a post on X on November 4.
"The security apparatus must do everything possible to end this spurt of attacks at the earliest so that people can go about their lives without any fear," he had added.
