We don`t trust Centre, want govt to withdraw farm laws, say agitating farmers

After the day-long confrontation at Delhi-Haryana`s Singhu and Tikri borders, the Delhi Police on Friday (November 27) finally allowed thousands of farmers to enter Delhi for a planned protest against the new Central farm laws.

    The farmers are protesting seeking the withdrawal of the farm bills. Farmers want the Union government to either withdraw the three legislations or guarantee them the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their crops by introducing a new law. 

  • The farmers, who are demonstrating on the Singhu border, have barricaded themselves. Despite being granted the Nirankari Ground in Burari, some of the protesting farmers said that they will stay at Singhu border. Meanwhile, a meeting of their leaders is currently underway to chalk out strategy on the protest.

There are many students who travelled to their colleges. It is causing a lot of problems for us," say students.

"The farmers from Punjab as well as from Haryana will make a night halt inside Haryana territory in Sonipat district, close to the Singhu border," Bharatiya Kisan Union (Charuni)'s Haryana unit chief Gurnam Singh Charuni said over phone.

  • Several farmer leaders are still on their way to Delhi. We will hold a meeting tomorrow and then take our next decision, said Bharatiya Kisan Union (Dakanuda) president Buta Singh Burjgill over the phone to PTI.

NEW DELHI: Thousands of farmers from Punjab and several states continued to protest against Centre's farm laws on Saturday (November 28, 2020), a day after they were finally allowed to enter the national capital following a day-long confrontation at Delhi-Haryana's Singhu and Tikri borders.

Meanwhile, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar reiterated that the central government was ready for talks with the farmer unions' leaders on December 3 to resolve their issues.


"The government is ready to do anything that is required for the prosperity of farmers. We have invited them for talks on December 3 and I hope that they will come," Tomar told ANI. 

The reason behind the widespread protests is these three new laws - The Farmers` Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
