India's agrarian crisis: Why are our farmer's angry?
"We hope by 3 pm, farmers from across the country will arrive at Ramlila Ground," said All India Kisan Sabha's Delhi unit. The two-day rally is expected to be "one of the largest congregations of farmers" in Delhi, the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC) claimed on Wednesday.
Farmers from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and other states, are marching on four different routes in the national capital. The routes start from three major railway stations Anand Vihar, Nizamuddin and Bijwasan and at Sabzi Mandi, their leaders said.
According to data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), over 3 lakh farmers have committed suicide in India between 1995 and 2015.
The farmers are demanding a special 21-day session of the Parliament on the agrarian crisis and other related issues such as the implementation of the recommendations made in the Report of the National Commission for Farmers.
The farmers will assemble at Nizammudin, Bijwasan, Majnu ka Tila, Kishanganj, and Anand Vihar for the rally and congregate at Ramlila Maidan. On Friday, the rally will continue from Ramlila Maidan to the Parliament Street. The overnight camps have been set up at Anand Vihar station, Bijwasan Barat Ghar Saini Mohalla, Nizammudin Gurdwara Shri Bala Sahib Ji and Dum Duma Sahib Gurudwara and Gurudwara Majnu Ka Tila near Delhi University. The march is being led by All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC) and supported the People's Archive of Rural India (PARI) network.
Thousands of farmers have gathered in the national capital Thursday for a two-day march to the Parliament. The Kisan Mukti March, which aims to bring attention to the agrarian crisis of the country – will witness farmers gathering in Delhi's Ramlila Maidan from across the country. On the second day, the rally will continue from Ramlila Maidan to the Parliament Street.
The farmers are demanding a special 21-day session of the Parliament on the agrarian crisis and other related issues such as debt relief and better minimum support price (MSP ) for crops.
