India coronavirus COVID-19 update June 12: Delhi records highest single-day spike of 2,137 COVID-19 cases
The nationwide COVID-19 tally crossed 2.9 lakh on Friday with a record single-day increase of more than 10,000 cases taking the count of infections detected this month to almost one lakh.

Odisha: The COVID-19 death toll in Odisha rose to 10 today with one more patient from Ganjam district succumbing to the disease, while 112 new instances of the infection took the total tally of cases in the state to 3,498, the health department said. The new patients included 21 personnel of disaster response teams -- NDRF, ODRAF and Fire Service -- who had returned to Odisha after restoration work in cyclone-ravaged West Bengal, it said. With this, the number of disaster response personnel infected with COVID-19 increased to 136, an official said. At least 120 patients were cured of COVID-19 in the state on Friday taking the total number of recoveries to 2,474. The recovery rate in Odisha stood at 70.72 per cent, he said.
Delhi: With the highest single-day spike of 2,137 COVID-19 cases on Friday, the total tally in Delhi crossed the 36,000-mark as the death toll due to the disease climbed to 1,214, authorities said. According to a health bulletin of the Delhi health department, 71 fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours. This is the first time that over 2,000 cases have been reported in a day in Delhi. The previous biggest jump in fresh cases at 1,877 was recorded on Thursday. (PTI)
Noida: Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar has recorded its 12th coronavirus-linked death, while 95 new positive cases of COVID-19 were detected, highest in a day so far, officials said. The 45-year-old deceased, a resident of Barola village, passed away this morning and had tested positive for COVID-19, a senior official said. Meanwhile, the official said 95 new COVID-19 positive cases were recorded in the district, taking the tally to 830. "So far, 477 COVID-19 patients have been cured and discharged from hospitals. There are 341 active cases now, while the number of deceased is 12," the officer said. (PTI)
New Delhi: The Delhi Police today organised an interactive session with health experts for its traffic personnel on the necessary precautions to be taken during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, officials said. The webinar session attended by 320 personnel was organised by the western traffic range with a panel of doctors from B L K hospital who talked on 'Life with Corona' and answered the several queries raised by the participants, they said. Similarly, another such awareness session on COVID-19 was organised for the traffic personnel of Central Range The session conducted by Dr Mradul Kumar Daga, Professor, Medicine Department, Maulana Azad Medical College was attended by over 70 personnel. Gujarat: The number of coronavirus Positive patients in Gujarat jumped to 22,562 as the state reported 495 cases in the last 24 hours, the health department said on Friday. During the same period, as many as 31 COVID-19 patients succumbed to the infection, taking the death toll due to virus to 1,416, it said in a statement. As many as 392 people recovered and were given discharge from different hospitals in the state, taking the total to 15,501. Gujarat's COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases: 22,562, new cases: 495, deaths: 1,416, discharged: 15,501, active cases: 5,645 and people tested so far: 2,78,137. (PTI)
Tamil Nadu crossed the 40,000 mark in the number of COVID-19 infections today, with the state reporting a record high of 1,982 cases in a single day and 18 more people succumbing to the virus. The total number of cases now stands at 40,698 with 367 deaths, according to the health department bulletin.
Bihar: A total of 236 fresh COVID-19 cases have been reported from Bihar in the last 24 hours, taking the infection tally to 6043 in the state where coronavirus has claimed 35 lives so far, according to teh state Health Department.
Delhi Police ASI Sanjeev Kumar died of COVID-19 today at GTB Hospital. Kumar (No 422/Crime PIS No. 28884051) was on a ventilator at the hospital. The 53-year-old ASI was posted with SOS 2, Crime Branch of Delhi Police.
Punjab: The state government on Friday launched a mobile application aimed at undertaking house to house surveillance to contain the spread of COVID-19. The app, 'Ghar ghar nigrani', was launched by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh through video conference, an official release said. The chief minister described the health department's initiative, encompassing ASHA (accredited social health activist) workers and community volunteers, as a tool for early detection and testing of coronavirus. Andhra Pradesh: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) today shut down Sri Govindaraja Swamy Temple in Tirupati for two days after an employee tested positive for Covid-19. TTD officials said a sanitary inspector, who had taken ill on Wednesday, tested positive on Friday. This development forced the authorities to close down the temple for devotees. The temple would be re-opened after disinfection operations in the premises, it said. Govindaraja Swamy Temple is one of the 10 temples which come under TTD, the prominent being Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple on Tirumala. All the temples located in Tirupati, Tirumala and surroundings were re-opened on June 8 after 80 days. (IANS)
The Central government today said the recovery rate of Covid-19 positive cases has increased to 49.47 per cent and a total of 1,47,194 individuals have recovered from the deadly disease. India has become the fourth worst-affected country due to the pandemic as it added around 10,000 cases for the fourth consecutive day and surpassed the UK`s tally to record 2,97,535 Covid-19 cases so far. The Health Ministry said that 6,166 individuals have recovered of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. The doubling rate also improved from 3.4 days at the beginning of lockdown to 17.4 days now. (IANS)
In the last 48 hours, 129 new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Maharashtra Police, with total number of positive cases rise to 3,388 including 36 deaths and 1945 recoveries. (ANI)
A total of 19 more COVID-19 cases have been reported from Manipur, taking the tally of coronavirus cases in the state to 385 on Friday, said the state government.Out of the total, 312 are active cases. The pathological test laboratory of a Faridabad-based ESI Hospital dedicated to the treatment of COVID-19 patients has been closed after around 70 lab technicians were found infected. Faridabad is one of the worst-affected districts, having reported 21 COVID deaths and 1,050 patients till date. The lab had to be closed down three days ago, hospital's Deputy Civil Surgeon, Dr Ram Bhagat said on Friday. The medical tests in the dedicated COVID-19 treatment centre would resume only after the induction of new staffers, he added. (PTI)
Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district reported its first fatality due to COVID-19 after a 65-year-old doctor succumbed to the disease, officials said on Friday. Dr Zaheer Alam, a resident of Jarwal area, was a diabetic and heart patient, they said. He was admitted to the Era Medical College Hospital in Lucknow on Wednesday where he died a day later, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Suresh Singh said. As on Thursday evening, the number of coronavirus cases in the district was 109, of which 79 were discharged from hospitals after treatment, Singh added. (PTI)
Uttarakhand reports 37 new COVID-19 positive cases today, taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 1692, according to the State Health Department.
Fourteen more people, including 11 women, tested positive for COVID-19 in Sikkim on Friday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 27, an official said. Of the fresh patients, 12 had recently returned from Maharashtra and two from neighbouring West Bengal, and they were in various quarantine centres in East Sikkim district, the health department's director general-cum-secretary Dr Pempa T Bhutia said. New Delhi: The nationwide COVID-19 tally crossed 2.9 lakh on Friday with a record single-day increase of more than 10,000 cases taking the count of infections detected this month to almost one lakh. The government, however, said the virus infection has not entered the community transmission stage as the lockdown and containment measures prevented a rapid spread.
As per the Union Health Ministry said the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has risen to 297535 after a record number of 10,956 cases were reported in 24 hours since Thursday 8 am.
Maharashtra, the state with the most number of confirmed cases recorded 3607 new cases of infection between Wednesday night and Thursday evening. With this development, the state's tally stands at 97,648. The state also witnessed 150 coronavirus-related deaths during the same time and its Covid-19 death toll is now 3,590. Tamil Nadu is second only to Maharashtra with 38,716 confirmed cases followed by Delhi with 34,687 cases and Gujarat with 22,067 cases.
A few curbs were eased during the four-phase lockdown period itself, while some restrictions are still in force, including on functioning of metro rail, regular international flights and educational institutions, and are to be lifted in a graded manner.
