"People across India are celebrating the start of the New Year...greetings to everyone. May the year bring peace, joy and prosperity," Modi tweeted.
The occasion is celebrated with different names in various regions and communities, so likewise the Prime Minister brought a little personalisation with his localised greetings.
He wished Gudi Padva to Maharashtrians, Cheti Chand to Sindhis, Ugadi to people of mid-southern states, Navreh to Kashmiris and Sajibu Cheiraoba to Manipuris, a variety of names with which new year is referred, in several tweets.
