RAMGARH: The Congress won the crucial by-election in Rajasthan's Ramgarh Assembly constituency on Thursday. The Congress candidate Shafia Zubair Khan won the seat easily defeating her rivals from the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party;

The voting was held on January 28 which witnessed a voter turnout of 79.12 per cent across 278 polling booths. The bypoll was necessitated following the death of BSP candidate Laxman Singh due to cardiac arrest ahead of December 7 Assembly polls in 2018. 


There were 20 candidates in the fray but the main contest was between Congress’ Shafia Zubair Khan, BJP’s Sukhwant Singh and BSP’s Jagat Singh.

- Congress wins Ramgarh seat with a margin of 12228 votes. Congress candidate Shafia Zubair garnered a total of 83311 votes, while BJP's Suwant Singh bagged 71083 votes.



- After the 18th round of counting, Congress is ahead of BJP by 9396 votes. Congress 74392 votes; BJP 64996 votes and BSP 24122 votes.


- Ramgarh by-election result is now just a formality. The Congress lead is unlikely to be bridged by the rivals.  


- The seventeenth round has seen the BJP close the gap but the Congress still enjoys a big lead. Congress 72,274 votes, BJP 58,334 votes and BSP 23,215 votes. The lead is now 13,940 votes.


- After 16 rounds of counting, the Congress candidate is still comfortably ahead of her rivals with a margin of 15,296 votes. Congress 69,283 votes, BJP 53,987 and BSP 22,927.  


- Slight dip in Congress' lead in the 15th round. Congress 66,015, BJP 50,404 and BSP 20,770 votes. The Congress is leading by 15,610 votes now.


- The lead is increasing for Congress candidate Shafia. She is leading by 16652 votes after 14 rounds. Congress 63,906 votes, BJP 47,254 and BSP 17,858


- Congress increases its lead after 12 rounds. The party is now leading by 15,791 votes against BJP.


- 11th round has been good for the Congress. The party is now leading by 12,815 votes. Congress 52,156 votes, BJP 39341 votes.


- BJP is making small gains. After the 10th round of counting, Congress has 46,556 votes, BJP, 37.236 votes and BSP 9,164. The Congress leads by 9,320 votes.


- After nine rounds, the Congress lead has come down to 10,905 votes. Congress 44,509 votes, BJP 33,694 10905.


- Congress maintains lead after eight round with 42,160 votes. BJP second with 28,824 and BSP has got 5,933 votes.


- Seventh round: Congress 37,500 votes, BJP 24899 votes and BSP 5,522 votes. Congress' lead has shrunk slightly to 12,601 votes.  


- After the sixth round of counting Congress has increased its lead to 12,936 votes. The party has got 28,701 and BJP 15,765 till now.


- Fifth round: Congress in lead with 19,692 votes, BJP second with 14,019 and BSP at third place with 2,600


-  After the fourth round of counting in Ramgarh, the Congress is leading with 13,387 votes, while the BJP is second with 12,696 votes.


- After three rounds of counting, Congress is still in the lead with over 9,700 votes, while BJP is second with 7,000 votes


- After three rounds of counting, Shafia Zubair of Congress is ahead by 3,000 votes.

- In the December 7 elections, Congress finished as the single largest party winning 99 out of 200 seats. The BJP won 73 seats, BSP 6, RLPT 3, CPI (M) and BPT 2 each and independents managed to win on 13 seats.

- Former union minister Natwar Singh's son Jagat Singh- a former MLA is BSP's candidate from this seat, while the ruling Congress has fielded Shafia Zubair as its candidate.
