Airtel will use LTE services for voice calling using the same 4G technology that Jio uses, an Economic Times report said.

Airtel has done (VoLTE) trials in 5-6 cities. Airtel's VoLTE services will go live first in Mumbai, followed by Kolkata and other metropolitan cities, ET added.

Though the telecom market is abuzz with speculations that voice calls may be made free for customers because VoLTE calls will use 4G data network, nothing has been hinted officially.

At present, Mukesh Ambani controlled Reliance Jio is the only operator in India offering voice on 4G network using VoLTE technology, while the incumbent telcos have been offering voice calls to their 4G customers with support of their other established networks -- 2G and 3G.
