The incident took place on Thursday during a public function where the Mandya Superintendent of Police, CH Sudhir Kumar Reddy was also present.

The chief minister publicly admonished the officer and called him a “useless fellow” after the protesters waved black flags and tried to block his cavalcade.

The BJP workers were demanding loan waivers for the farmers.

Criticising Siddaramaiah's brattish rebuke to the officer, BJP leader S Prakash said that the CM mistreated him when he was only doing his duty.

"I believe it is for the ruler to digest it and get along with that but here Siddaramaiah is showing tremendous intolerance towards the incident" ANI quoted him as saying.

Reddy is a 2010 batch IPS officer.
