  • There was more communal violence in states ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party, says the Congress. Opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge says: "Where the BJP is in majority, more communal violence is reported from there." Furious BJP MPs are up on their feet shouting slogans against Kharge.

  • Lok Sabha adjourned.

  • Insisting that the word intolerance is being misused, Guntur MP and industrialist Jayadev Galla says politicians must stop dividing people on the basis of caste and religion as it only hurts the nation. "How can incapacity of the concerned state governments (in stopping acts of intolerance) result in the failure of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister," he questioned. He insists that incidents like Dadri lynching case and murders of rationalists MM Kalburgi and Narendra Dabholkar were "not acceptable", but adds that since law and order is a state issue, the governments concerned should take action.

  • Trinamool Congress MP Derek O'Brien asks the Narendra Modi government to clarify its stand on the Indian Constitution. Derek quoted MS Golwakar as saying: “The non-Hindu people of Hindustan must either adopt Hindu culture and language, must learn and respect and hold in reverence the Hindu religion, must entertain no idea but of those of glorification of the Hindu race and culture … In a word they must cease to be foreigners, or may stay in the country, wholly subordinated to the Hindu nation, claiming nothing, deserving no privileges, far less any preferential treatment—not even citizens’ rights.”

  • Congress MP Ashok Chavan asks the government about the steps that have been taken to stop farmers from committing suicide. 

  • Responding to questions, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju​ says cases of violence occurred across the country, but it needs to be sorted which cases were communal and which were not. He further noted that the number of incidents of communal violence has gone down during NDA tenure.

  • Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv Pratap Rudy says Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will give his reply to all issues raised, including the subject of 'intolerance', in Parliament this afternoon.

  • Left parties hold protest outside Parliament over 'intolerance'. Led by CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechury and senior CPI leader D Raja and others, the parliamentarians held placards with slogans that read `Down down communalism` and "Rising intolerance in the country`.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who returned home this morning after attending the Climate Summit in Paris, is likely to make a statement in Rajya Sabha on `rising intolerance` today.

  • Communist Party of India-Marxist member Mohammad Salim, whose remark attributed to Home Minister Rajnath Singh created a furore during the debate on intolerance in the Lok Sabha on Monday, refused to tender an apology on Tuesday. Noting that his statement was not kept in records, Salim said he will not apologise to the Home Minister. Salim had alleged that Singh was quoted by a magazine as having made the 'Hindu leader' remark after Narendra Modi became Prime Minister last year. Singh had vehemently denied it and said he was never hurt so much in his Parliamentary career as he was today.
