HYDERABAD: YSRCP led by YS Jaganmohan Reddy is headed for a big victory in Andhra Pradesh over arch-rival and incumbent Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party chief Chandrababu Naidu as his party is currently leading in 24 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats, hours after the counting of votes began on Thursday, May 23. Jagan Reddy's party has further impressed the political observers by making a clean sweep in the assembly elections held simultaneously in the state.

Besides Lok Sabha election, YS Jaganmohan Reddy also steered his party YSRCP to an emphatic victory in the Assembly elections too. The YSRCP chief is likely to take oath as the next Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on May 30. Thanking people of Andhra Pradesh for their support to Jagan Reddy's party, YSRCP leader Ummareddy Venkateswarlu said ''voters here have rejected the loot of outgoing TDP government in Andhra Pradesh led by Chandrababu Naidu''.   


The YSRCP Legislature Party will meet on May 25 to formally elect Jaganmohan Reddy as its leader, party sources said. Reddy will take oath as Chief Minister in the temple-town of Tirupati on May 30, the sources said. Several top leaders, including PM Narendra Modi, have congratulated Jagan Reddy for successfully leading his party to victory.   


The elections in Andhra Pradesh were a direct contest between the TDP and the YSRCP, with the Congress and the BJP (Bharatiya) pushed to the sidelines. 


The counting of votes for the 25 Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh, which started at 8 AM on Thursday, is still underway. Election trends have started pouring in and the final picture will be clear in a few hours from now, which will reveal the early winners and trailing candidates.

The state on April 11 witnessed polling in the first phase and 79.74 per cent voters cast their ballot for the 319 candidates in the fray.


This was the first time Andhra Pradesh voted in Lok Sabha election since the reorganisation of the state and the formation of Telangana. Of the total constituencies, Narasaraopet registered the highest voter turnout at 85.53 per cent.
