Bhopal: At least 14 people were charred to death and scores of others injured when a massive fire broke out at a packed ration shop in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district on Friday.

According to media reports, the toll may increase as the condition of some of the injured are said to be very serious.


Several fire-tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the inferno.


The cause of the fire was not immediately known.


Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 4 lakhs for the next of kin of those killed in the fire.
