Chandrapur: The Bharatiya Janata Party has won in 36 out of 66 wards in the election to Chandrapur municipal corporation in Maharashtra.

The Congress has managed to finish second with 12 seats; Bahujan Samaj Party – 8, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena – 2, Nationalist Congress Party – 2, Shiv Sena – 2, Independents – 4.


After winning the polls, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis tweeted: "Thank you #Chandrapur for giving BJP an absolute majority for devpt! Congratulations to @SMungantiwar ji, @ahir_hansraj ji & NanaShamkuleji!"


Fifty-seven percent turnout was registered in the polling held on Wednesday for the Chandrapur municipal corporation in Maharashtra.


Chandrapur is the home turf of senior BJP leader and Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar. At present, Congress is in power in this 66-member civic body.


 


 


 


As many as 460 candidates are in the fray whose fate will be decided by 3.02 lakh voters.
