New Delhi: Markets opened in the negative zone on Thursday amidst mixed global cues.

The BSE Sensex fell 322.79 points to 31,362.96 in opening session while the NSE Nifty declined 83 points to 9,187.90.


HUL, Kotak Bank, ONGC, Bharti Airtel, PowerGrid, Titan and Nestle were the major losers, falling over 3 per cent. While HCL Tech, Sun Pharma, Axis Bank and Bajaj Finance were the major gainers rising over 3 percent.

In the previous session, the BSE barometer closed 232.24 points or 0.74 per cent higher at 31,685.75, the broader Nifty rose 65.30 points, or 0.71 per cent, to finish at 9,270.90.


Foreign portfolio investors were net sellers in the capital market on Wednesday, as they offloaded equity shares worth Rs 493.68 crore, according to provisional exchange data.


The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 218.45 points, or 0.91 per cent, to 23,664.64. The S&P 500 decreased 20.02 points, or 0.7 per cent, to 2,848.42. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 45.27 points, or 0.51 per cent, to 8,854.39, Xinhua news agency reported.
