Driverless train engine chugs away 13 km until staffer chases it down on a bike!
The train was replacing its electric engine with a diesel one when the incident took place.
MUMBAI: In a bizarre case, a train engine chugged away 13 kilometers without a driver until a staffer chased it down on a bike, a media report said.
In a dramatic act that looked like a scene straight from a Bollywood movie, the staffer successfully catches up with the engine and manages to stop it.
The incident took place at 3 pm on Wednesday when the Chennai-Mumbai train arrived at the Wadi junction, DNA reported.
The train was replacing its electric engine with a diesel one when the incident took place. The route from Wadi to Solapur in Maharashtra is not electrified.
But due to a slip-up, the electric engine started moving on its own after the driver alighted from it.
Stunned railway officials at the Wadi station alerted the next few stations to clear the signals and tracks to prevent any possible mishap.
The engine finally stopped near Nalwar after traveling 13 kms.
The railway has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
