Hyderabad: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Saturday said it had seized about 4 kg of gold worth about Rs 1.2 crore from an aircraft after it landed at the Visakhapatnam airport.

Based on a tip-off, DRI officers in Hyderabad intercepted a passenger who arrived from Dubai at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport yesterday.


The passenger confessed that 40 gold bars had been concealed in the toilet of the aircraft, a DRI release said.


"The flight was on its way to Visakhapatnam. The officers of DRI, Visakhapatnam, carried out a search on its arrival there and recovered the gold bars," a DRI release said.


The passenger was remanded in 13-day judicial custody.
