However, the meeting seemed more of an informal nature as Lt Gen Mukhtar was seen in civil dress rather than in uniform.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister appreciated the role the ISI has played in the anti-terrorism war, reports the Dawn.

Lt Gen Mukhtar replaced Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar as head of ISI earlier in December.

Earlier, Lt Gen Mukhtar had been serving as Corps Commander of Karachi.

Prior to his stint in Karachi, he served in the ISI as head of its counter-terrorism wing.
