A Law Ministry notification said Justice Sharma has been asked to assume his new charge on or before September 29.

While the Uttarakhand High Court has a sanctioned strength of 11 judges, it is functioning with six judges.

In May, the Supreme Court collegium had recommended transferring Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court, Justice K M Joseph, to Andra Pradesh/Telangana High Court. But so far, the government has not taken a call on the recommendation.

Justice Joseph had delivered a judgement quashing President's Rule in the state.
