Like all other IAS officers, he could have risen high in his career! Sadly, that will not be the case.

He has become the first IAS officer from Bihar to have been arrested while taking bribe.

The young officer was taken into custody on Tuesday night by the state vigilance bureau for taking bribe from a truck driver, The Hindu reported.

Dr Jitendra Gupta, as SDO, Mohania, Kaimur, had intercepted four trucks, two of them overloaded, carrying iron bars on July 4 – the trucks were travelling to Rajasthan from Jamshedpur.

Gupta then demanded Rs 1.5 lakh from the owner of the trucks for the release of his vehicles.

By the time he reduced the demand to Rs 80,000, the trucks' owner had complained to the state vigilance bureau which decided to lay a trap to nab the official red-handed.

The vigilance bureau raided the SDO's home and recovered cash and trucks' registration papers shortly after the driver paid Rs 80,000 to Gupta.

The IAS officer's driver and house guard were also taken into custody.

Gupta has now been sent to 14 days' judicial custody by a special vigilance court.
