New Delhi: Shortly after the exit polls predicted that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is poised to win the recently concluded Assembly polls in the national capital, an elated party convenor Arvind Kejriwal thanked the people of the city for voting for his party in large numbers.

Expressing his gratitude, Kejriwal wrote on microblogging website Twitter - "My gratitude 2 Delhiites for their support," he tweeted. "(You are) so amazing. (You) rejected politics of caste and religion. Hope final results (are) as per exit polls. (sic)"



In another tweet, the former Delhi CM also congratulated the AAP volunteers and wrote, “My sincere thnks n congratulations to all selfless volunteers of AAP, who worked round the clock for their country. AAP is bcoz of u. (sic)”   



Later Kejriwal tweeted that the party has deployed its "volunteers to keep vigil" on the premises housing electronic voting machines.



According to half-a-dozen exit polls, the AAP is likely to form a government in Delhi, for which the Delhiites voted today.


The AAP of former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, who ran an aggressive campaign, is expected to win between 31 and a whopping 53 seats in the 70-member assembly, the surveys said, IANS reported.


67.08 percent voter turnout was recorded in the polling for the 70-member Delhi assembly which began at 8 am amid tight security.


About 55,000 police personnel were deployed to ensure hassle free voting. The police also undertook patrolling in different parts of the capital to prevent the distribution of liquor, money or any other allurements.


Over 1.33 crore electorates voted today to decide the fate of 673 candidates in the capital city.
