New Delhi: In a daring heist in broad daylight, Rs 1.5 crore were looted from a cash van by two unidentified bike-borne robbers in north Delhi's busy Kamla Nagar market near Delhi University on Saturday morning.

The robbers shot dead the security guard before fleeing with the cash. The robbery took place outside a private bank ATM booth located on Bungalow Road near Kamla Nagar.


The two men looted the cash during process of refilling the ATM machine of private bank. The robbers opened fire at the guard who was providing security cover to the custodians of the cash van while they were refilling the ATM machine. According to reports, the guard was hit twice in the head.


The robber then reached for the cash van in which a bag containing Rs. 1.5 crore was kept and fled brandishing their weapons, said reports quoting a senior police officer.


The police was informed of the crime by an eye-witness after which a PCR van that arrived at the scene immediately rushed the seriously injured security guard to the nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.


The police has registered a case of attempted murder, armed robbery and arms act at the Roop Nagar police station and is looking at the footage of CCTV cameras installed near the crime spot to try and establish the identity of the criminals.
