The report of Commission said that a total of 128 complaints of discrimination were received by it in 2014-15. Out of which 113 were heard and disposed off while 15 were pending before the Commission.

Profile of the petitioners revealed that maximum number of complaints were received from the Muslims (96) followed by Sikhs (13), Christians (12), and Buddhists (1), the report mentions.

Nature of the petitions filed before the Commission also revealed that the complaints of discrimination were related mostly to service issues, business issues, religious affairs, education and land matters.

The report highlights redressal of discrimination grievances of minority community members as one of the main functions of the Commission. Power of Civil Court are available to the Commission to summon a person and documents and papers related with complaints and also to record the statements.

While in most of the cases Delhi Minorities Commission succeeded in redressing the complaints in favour of the petitioners, in some cases it also found that no case of deprivation of rights or discrimination was made out.

The report details such cases where the Commission after thorough enquiry found that the complaints of discrimination were not genuine.

In one case a teacher of a government school whose application for deputation as Haj Assistant was rejected had petitioned the Commission. However, after enquiry the Commission found that he was not eligible for deputation and also that there was no case of "victimization" or "deprivation" of minorities rights as alleged.

In another complaint of discrimination concerning a land matter filed before the Commission against Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board, enquiry revealed that the petitioner had concealed certain facts and the case was closed.

Delhi Minorities Commission was set up as a statutory body in 1999 to protect the rights and interests of minority communities. Its latest annual report of 2014-15 has already been submitted to the Delhi Government.
