Heavy rains in Delhi for second consecutive day; waterlogging, traffic snarls spell trouble for Delhiites

Traffic snarls were witnessed on roads leading to Gurgaon and the airport.

New Delhi: Heavy rains continued to lash the national capital for the second consecutive day on Thursday, leading to waterlogging and traffic jams in various areas of the city.

On Wednesday, the rainfall recorded in Delhi till 5:30 pm was 63.1 mm. The maximum temperature recorded for yesterday was 29.5 degrees Celsius, five notches below the season's average, and the minimum temperature at 25 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal for this time of the year. 

The humidity level was 90 percent.

The situation on roads today was no different than yesterday. Commuters again faced a tough time in the morning rush hours. Traffic snarls were also witnessed on roads leading to Gurgaon and the airport. Heavy rain has affected flight operations too.

Traffic was slow at ITO, Dhaula Kuan, Ridge Road, Mayapuri flyover, Madhuban Chowk, Sarai Kale Khan and Nizamuddin area among other areas. Vehicular movement was affected at many places due to waterlogging and breakdown of vehicles.

According to the MeT department, thunderstorm with moderate to heavy rain would occur over many places in northwest, south and southeast NCR and Delhi.

The maximum temperature today is expected to hover around 31 degrees Celsius and the minimum at 25 degrees Celsius.
