New Delhi: The erstwhile Municipal Corporation of Delhi may have two years back been trifurcated into separate civic bodies with their own mayors, but one of the official cars being used by the North Mayor still carries `Delhi Mayor` nameplates. The discrepancy was noticed today when North Delhi Mayor Yogender Chandolia arrived at the Civic Centre office for an election in an Ambassador car which bore red `Mahapaur Dilli` (Delhi Mayor) nameplates at its front and back. The corporation`s flag on the car, however, carries the correct description of `Mayor, North Delhi` with the seal of the municipal body emblazoned on it. Municipal Corporation of Delhi or MCD, the civic body for the capital city was in 2012 trifurcated into the North Delhi (NDMC), South Delhi (SDMC) and East Delhi (EDMC) municipal corporations. Since that time, the city has had three different mayors for the three zones. In recent mayoral polls, Chandolia was elected unopposed as the mayor of North Delhi. NDMC authorities were oblivious to the discrepancy until it was pointed out, but later said, "The mayor has now issued directions for rectification of the same." When approached by PTI over the issue, Mayor Chandolia, who has also served as a Standing Committee chairman during the unified MCD era, said, "The discrepancy in the use of nameplates on the car will be rectified soon." "The junior staff did not bring it to our notice earlier. But the mayor issued corrective directions today for rectifying the discrepancy," said NDMC Public Relations Officer Yogendra Singh Mann. The three mayors are supposed to use official cars that carry the `Mayor North Delhi`, `Mayor South Delhi` and `Mayor East Delhi` nameplates along with their official flags. The north mayor uses a Maruti car (official) but also occasionally travels in the said official Ambassador car, procured after the trifurcation, Mann said.
