Ghaziabad: A wanted criminal was arrested in Ghaziabad along with his four gang mates and pistols, a stolen Honda car, a police uniform and other articles seized from them, police said on Tuesday.

Police said that a patrol in Raj Nagar Extension area noticed a few suspicious persons. On being challenged, the five tried to flee but were apprehended and taken to the police station where they confessed that on June 10, they planned to lot the cash van of the Gabhana toll bridge in Aligarh for which they stole a Honda City car from Delhi's Daryaganj.


But the plan was foiled with the arrest of some of their accomplices in Ghaziabad, and they were in search of another target.


"After June 10 arrest and subsequent confession of criminals, the SSP Ghaziabad announced a reward on the arrest of the gang's leader Jitendra... on the midnight of June 13 the alert police nabbed five criminals including Jitendra from Karhera bridge in Raj Nagar Extension area," Superintendent of Police, City, Salman Taj Patil said at a press conference here.


The other four were identified as Danish, a resident of Delhi, Aamir, a resident of Loni (Ghaziabad), Aleem, a resident of Hafizpur (Hapur) and Sonu, a resident of Arnia (Bulandshahr).


Police recovered three pistols, two knives, four mobile phones, a police uniform and the stolen Honda City car.
