Will `Gandhigiri` help AAP make odd-even formula successful?
In the movie, actor Sanjay Dutt had played the role of the main protagonist.
New Delhi: Inspired by Bollywood movie “Munnabhai MBBS”, which explored the Gandhiyan way of life in dealing with life's problems, the AAP government is planning to gift a rose to each law breaker in order to drive home its point behind its ambitious odd-even traffic scheme to be implemented from Jan 1.
In the movie, actor Sanjay Dutt had played the role of the main protagonist.
The AAP government insists that a change in 'mindset' would bring the desired result and therefore what's the best way then to put 'Gandhigiri' into play.
To achieve that goal, the state government plans to rope in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and the National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers who would be deployed across the Capital to offer roses to violators to effect a 'change in mindset'. According to a report, some 10,000 would be pressed into service.
The government has decided to begin the 15-day trial of the odd-even scheme in a most restrained manner. It has categorised types of vehicles that will be kept out of the ambit of the odd-even formula.
This ambitious scheme was unveiled by CM Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday.
Kejriwal said that he and his colleagues will carpool to work during the trial period. Embassy vehicles, cars with defence ministry number plates, vehicles which are having a pilot or escort have been exempted.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said a strong message would go out if the Chief Justice of India carpools to work.
VIPs, women drivers, CNG vehicles, two wheelers and those carrying the differently-abled are among 25 categories to be exempted from the scheme.
Violators would attract a penalty of Rs2,000.
Kejriwal admitted that if the number of violators is huge, it will mean that the public at large in the national Capital are not in favour of the scheme and it will be discontinued.
