Health issues have become the biggest concern among the residents of Delhi. Air in the city contains hazardous toxins that are manipulating the air quality, making it cross safety levels as well as the safety standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO).

According to a report in Times of India, a study has found that the Delhi's air contains high level of an extremely toxin group of 100 chemicals called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), emitted mainly due to incomplete combustion.

The IIT-Kanpur draft report on pollution in Delhi has triggered fresh alarm over the winter air quality.

"Total PAH levels in winter are very high at 80 ng/m3... (although) comparison with annual standard is not advisable due to different averaging times," says the draft report that studied the sources and nature of Delhi's air pollution during 2013 and 2014. The levels drop significantly to about 15 ng/m3 in summers, as reported by TOI.

"In a broad sense, air is more toxic in winter than in summer as it contains a much larger contribution of combustion products," it says in the report.

PAH is a carcinogen, mutagen and reproductive toxin.
