"The whole world was looking at India at CoP 21 at Paris and we lived up to the expectations," said Goyal, who also holds charge of coal and renewable energy, in his address at the World Leadership Dialogue here.

India provided leadership not only to protect the interests of the developing countries and less developed countries, but also to balance the deep concerns of the future generations with climate justice, equity and fairness for all, he said.

He said the world witnessed true leadership at the culmination of CoP 21 in Paris where 196 countries with different ideas and viewpoints assembled to tackle the most difficult problem facing our planet - climate change and global warming - and converge with an agreement and path forward for humanity.

"(A total of) 1,600 points of dissent reduced to 0 in 10 days," Goyal said.
