New Delhi: With the early trends showing the main opposition party BJP taking a huge lead over ruling Congress, the clamour for bringing Sonia Gandhi`s daughter Priyanka Gandhi in the mainstream has begun.
As the counting of votes began and the trends started pouring from various polling stations indicated several top Congress figures trailing at various places, hundreds of disappointed Congress workers started chanting the slogan “Bring Priyanka, save the nation”. Sensing a near-certain defeat, the party workers conducted prayers outside the Congress HQ early this morning and performed a `havan` for party`s victory.
Posters reading “Please God make Rahul Gandhi PM” and “Please God help make Sonia Gandhi`s government” were also seen on the spot.
This also holds significance in the wake of mix reports that Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi had slipped to third spot in Amethi where Smriti Irani of BJP was trailing around 10 am.
Despite growing clamour for bringing Priyanka Gandhi at the forefront of the Congress party`s affairs, Sonia Gandhi`s daughter has preferred to take a backseat and confined herself to canvassing for her party in Rae Bareli and Amethi only.
Exit polls at the end of the staggered election have predicted a win for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies in the National Democratic Alliance.
