Panaji: The number of Nigerians arrested in drug related cases in Goa are on the rise since last three years, according to state police records.
Records reveal that the State Anti-Narcotics Cell and district police arrested 18 Nigerians out of 25 foreign nationals booked under stringent Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act last year.
Previously in 2011, total 10 Nigerians were arrested (out of 25 foreign nationals found with the drugs) and a year before it was nine (out of total 30). Superintendent of Police (ANC) Karthik Kashyap said that the current crack down by government on the Nigerians following ruckus created by them on the national highway last week, will have an impact on drug trade in the state. "Going by past figures, it is clear that majority of the foreigners arrested in Goa for drug trade are Nigerians," the SP said.
He said that Nigerians are mostly caught with conventional drugs like cocaine, heroine, ganja and charas and not the synthetic ones.
