World number one and top-seed Gustavo Kuerten continued his winning run as he beat Tommy Haas of Germany 6-3 6-3 to earn a spot in the semifinals of the 500,000 Mercedes Benz Cup of Los Angeles. Kuertan admitted to being ''sluggish'', and ''lazy'' in his straight sets second round victory over American teenager Robby Ginepri on Wednesday after jetting in from Stuttgart two days earlier following his fifth title of the year. However, the smooth-stroking Brazilian looked sharp against Haas, breaking service three times to dispose of the eighth seed in just 58 minutes to notch up his 15th straight victory on Friday. Kuerten now faces third-seeded Andre Agassi after the American eliminated fellow countryman and fifth seed Jan-Michael Gambill. Bureau Report
