In stepped up attacks on mainstream politicians in Jammu and Kashmir, Ultras made an abortive attempt on the life of rural development minister Ajay Sadhotra, shot at and injured brother of a ruling national conference MLA and attacked the CPI(M) state secretary's residence since on Thursday night. “Elsewhere in the state, 10 militants and two securitymen were among 15 people killed during the period,” an official spokesman said. “Heavily armed militants opened fire on the motorcade of Ajay Sadhotra at Narbal, about 15 kms from here, when he was on way to Srinagar from Bandipora in Baramulla district last night. The escort personnel returned the fire. None was hurt in the shootout which lasted for a brief period,” he added.
The attack came barely five hours after militants made an abortive bid on the life of works minister Ali Mohammad Sagar at Dalina in Baramulla on Thursday.
Militants shot at and critically injured Abdul Majeed Akhoon, younger brother of NC MLA Mohammad Sayeed Akhoon, at Suritang locality in downtown Srinagar on Thursday night. Majeed, an employee of agriculture department, was rushed to hospital where his condition was stated to be Serious. Ultras fired at the guards posted at CPI(M) state secretary and MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami's residence at Lulgam in Anantnag late Thursday night. The guards returned the fire but the militants escaped unhurt, he said. Tarigami was not present in the house at the time of the attack.
