Police forcibly removed four members of the Falun Gong meditation sect outside China's representative office in Macau on Sunday during a protest against Beijing's detention of hundreds of the group's adherents.
A senior police officer said the four people were taken into custody for questioning after they disobeyed police orders to leave.
The members had received permission to stage their protest in a nearby park, not opposite the Chinese liaison office, he said.
A dozen Macau police officers lifted the four followers, who maintained their meditation poses, from the pavement opposite the Chinese liaison office and placed them in a police car, local television footage showed.
“We didn't do anything illegal,” yelled one female practitioner who appeared on television station ATV as she was taken away.
