R R Gopal, Editor of Tamil bi-weekly Nakkheran, on Saturday alleged threat to the life of the magazine's reporter Sivasubramaniam, who had been remanded to 15 days' police custody by a magistrate at Bhavani on Friday.
Gopal told reporters here that the Tamil Nadu Police had shown "undue haste" in getting Sivasubramaniam, who was arrested by the Karnataka Police on October 20 last.
Even the judge of Samarajnagar District, while disposing of a petition filed by Erode police seeking a transit warrant against Sivasubramaniam, had observed that he had some doubt that Erode police was interested to take custody of the journalist "not only for escort purposes, but also for some other purpose", he claimed.
Though the judge refused permission for the warrant, Tamil Nadu police got such a warrant from the Bhavani court, he alleged adding that the entire episode, marred with 'torture' of the reporter by Special Task Force of the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka police, had created a suspicion that the police was after his life.
He alleged that the police was compelling the reporter to give a statement against him (Gopal) so that they could arrest him. Bureau Report
