Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Friday strongly condemned the attack on Indian Parliament, describing it as senseless violence against elected representatives.

“I was shocked to hear about the terrorist attack on Lok Sabha, the symbol of democracy in India,” Wickremesinghe said in separate messages to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and President K R Narayanan.

“ We in Sri Lanka strongly condemn such senseless violence directed at the elected representatives of the people of India,” he said.

The new Prime Minister's condemnation came even as there was official confirmation of the dates for his visit to India. “He would visit New Delhi from December 22 to 24,” foreign minister Tyronne Fernando said.
Fernando said that he would be accompanying Wickremesinghe on his visit.
