The United States has said that there was no indication that Osama bin Laden had crossed the border into Pakistan.

Pakistan was doing everything it could to arrest any movement back and forth across the border, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said on Monday when asked about the concerns expressed by the Northern Alliance spokesman in the US over the possibility of Laden sneaking across the border into Pakistan. Fleischer said the US had provided more than one billion dollars in aid to pakistan, $ 73 million dollars of which was meant to increase the country's security along the border and its ability to detect movement of people into pakistan. ''It's a very long border it's difficult to police the entirety of the border,'' he said and added that Pakistan didn’t wanted Osama bin Laden to operate in their land. To a question whether the administration proposed to bring bin Laden to justice if he is captured, he said, ''one way or another.'' Bureau Report
