Elaborate security arrangements have been made in the city, including deployment of armed platoons and paramilitary forces to ensure smooth conduct of ten-day long Ganesh festival, beginning from Wednesday.
An 8,000-strong civil police, 1,200 home guards and 20 armed platoons of the city police, besides policemen from other parts of the state, would be deployed during the festival, according to city police commissioner P Ramulu in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
Over 11,000 Ganesh idols are likely to be immersed at Hussainsagar lake after a centralised procession on the concluding day of the festival on Aug 31. On the immersion day, 1,200-strong civil police, 60 armed platoons and 10 companies of para-military forces including four companies of Rapid Action Force (RAF) would be drafted for security duties, he said.
As many as 225 places in the city had been identified as 'sensitive' and armed pickets had been posted there while mobile patrolling would be organised from Thursday, the commissioner said.
