Pop singer Aaliyah was among eight people who perished in a plane crash late last night off the coast of the Bahamas, according to US media. CNN reported on Sunday that a light aircraft carrying the singer crashed while attempting to take off from Marsh Harbor airport in the Bahamas en route to Opa-Locka, Florida.
The network reported that one person was also critically injured. All of the casualities reportedly were Americans.
CNN reported that Aaliyah had travelled to the Bahamas to film her latest music video. The Grammy-nominated singer and actress recorded soundtracks for the movies `Dr Dolittle` and `Romeo Must Die,` in which she also made her acting debut. Her most recent album, her first in five years, was released just a few weeks ago.
Aaliyah also had upcoming film performances planned in `Anne Rice`s Queen of the Damned,` and two sequels to the hit movie `the matrix.` Bureau Report
