Police rescued 17 girls from the Khalpara Red Light area of this commercial town and arrested four miscreants in this connection.
Additional superintendent of police K Jayraman told reporters that the girls were brought from Assam, north 24 parganas and Coochbehar districts of West Bengal during the last nine months. Deputy superintendent of police, C S Lepcha, who conducted the raid, said all the girls expressed their willingness to go back to their families and police was taking all legal measures to send them back.
