A major fire broke out in a Calcutta Port Trust Warehouse in central part of the city on Thursday.

The fire, which broke out in a portion of the store, engulfed the 10,000 sq. ft warehouse within no time, fire brigade sources said.

20 fire tenders fought for over nine hours to douse the flames. Large quantity of chemicals and plastic sheets were gutted in the blaze.

Fire Services Minister Pratim Chatterjee, director general of fire services and other senior officials rushed to the spot to oversee fire-fighting operations. “The cause of fire and extent of damage were yet to be ascertained,” the sources said. Bureau Report
