"The cases detected in Assam are not of serious nature. The persons are not yet hospitalised. Of the five persons, four are civilians and one is an Army man," Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister Nazrul Islam said in reply to a query by Congress MLA Ardhendu Kumar Dey during Zero Hour.

Of the five cases, three were detected in Dibrugarh and two in Guwahati, he said.

As per Central guidelines, three categories of swine flu patients -- A, B and C -- have been defined, of which A and B categories' need not to be hospitalised, the minister said.

The usual season for the virus to be active is from January to March and its intensity is about to decrease from now, the minister said.

"The state government is alert and fully prepared to deal with any situation. We have enough stock of medicines. The ICU and isolation units in hospitals are ready," he added.

Private hospitals and their ambulances have been asked to be on stand-by.
