Thirteen people, including a ruling National Conference leader, five militants and two security personnel were killed while forces captured four ultras and seized 50 kg RDX in the Kashmir Valley. Official sources told reporters that militants attacked a patrol of the special operation group of Jammu and Kashmir police at Tral, Saturday afternoon around 1:25 pm.
He said SOG personnel returned the fire and in the encounter SPO Mohammad Akbar and two civilians were killed and eight others were wounded.
The injured were admitted to hospital where condition of some of them is stated to be critical. A report from Baramulla said militants fired upon a search party of the Rashitrya Rifles at Tekyabal Sopore in north Kashmir Saturday morning.
Troops immediately sealed the area and engaged militants in a fierce clash during which four militants, believed to be foreigners, were killed.
One soldier and two women also lost their lives in the clash and two securitymen were injured.
A large quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from the slain militants.

Security forces gunned down a militant at Kunzer Friday evening and recovered some arms and ammunition near the site of encounter.
Security forces arrested four militants alongwith 28 grenades, one pistol, four magazines and 92 rounds in the city during overnight operations.
