New Delhi: Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan's comments on growing intolerance have provoked sharp reactions from several political and film industry personalities. While his industry colleagues Anupam Kher and Ram Gopal Varma berating him, Congress said what 'Mr Perfectionist' is saying, the whole world is saying and asked the Modi government to pay heed to the message.
Khan, at an award ceremony yesterday, had said that he was "alarmed" by a number of incidences and his wife Kiran Rao had wondered if they should move out of India,
Here's some of the reactions:
Hitting out at Aamr Khan, Bollywood actor Anupam Kher said: "India has made him what he is".
Ram Gopal Varma, who gave Aamir one of his hit films of his career "Rangeela", wrote, "Some celebs complaining about Intolerance should be the last ones to complain because they became celebs in a so called intolerant country."
Coming in support of the Bollywood superstar, Congress said what the actor is saying, the whole world is saying and asked the current dispensation to pay heed to the message.
The BJP said that Rahul Gandhi supporting Aamir's comment only reeks of a conspiracy to defame the nation.
"We completely reject the comment of Aamir Khan. He is not scared but he is trying to scare people. Aamir Khan makes a comment and Rahul Gandhi supports it. It becomes clear from Gandhi's comment that there is a conspiracy going on in the country to defame the nation,” Shahnawaz said.
“No country is better than India for Muslims,” Shahnawaz asserted, adding, “Aamir will not get a better country than India to live and a Hindu as his neighbour.''
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju contradicted Aamir's suggestion and said: "The record shows that the number of incidents of communal violence in country have come down since NDA came to power. Just to make a blatant statement that during NDA rule the country has become intolerant, it unnecessarily tarnishes the image of the country."
Supporting Aamir over his remarks against growing intolerance, senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan on Tuesday wondered what a common man would be feeling.
“If Aamir’s wife fears for the future of her children, then think about those who don’t have anyone for support,” Azam Khan said.
